People are scared. They are in pain. They've lost a job. They've gotten a diagnosis. They've lost a loved one. Their partner is hurting them. They feel lost or powerless to improve. They're concerned about their kids. It can feel like it's just too much.

I help people identify those core causes of distress to deepen understanding of thoughts, behaviors, and emotions in order to develop practical solutions. Clients range from adolescents to adults and groups who may present anything from depression and substance issues to domestic violence issues, PTSD, body dysmorphia, adjustment disorders, addiction, ADHD, bi-polar issues, grief or anxiety.

So while life can sometimes be too much, now you have a safe, confidential place you can visit and figure stuff out. This is where we roll up our sleeves and get to work empowering your progress towards a healthier mental state.
to manage your challenges

Every day I'm amazed at the raw courage clients show in breaking through the waves of turmoil in their lives.

I work with all kinds of folks who wrestle with a myriad of life-challenging problems and am honored they share their story. Providing therapeutic help requires someone skilled in building a non-judgemental, safe and confidential environment to do the emotional work needed in order to more skillfully handle new or chronic challenges.

Sometimes it helps to think of me as your emotional personal trainer, your confidant, your witness, your change agent. Just the mere act of collaborating on your concerns increases the potential to change them. As such, we explore the broken parts of your life where you feel haunted by anxiety, depression, low self esteem, relationship challenges, substance abuse issues, feeling meaningless, etc. The goal is to identify and manage your sources of pain with mindfulness and intentional balance to gain more stability and strength.

My unconditional positive regard for you is enthusiastic, compassionate and respectful. Regardless of your situation, demographic or issues, our goal is not necessarily to fight those waves you're experiencing, but learn how to  ride them out.

Counseling Services

Counseling is like going to a gym inasmuch as you determine how much benefit to get from it. Sure, you can buy a membership and hire a trainer but only you can do the exercises. Your trainer can inspire and guide you, but you have to be willing to sweat in order to see results. So it is with most counseling.    A therapist provides highly specialized treatment, bringing years of advanced training to bear, but benefits are still directly related to your motivation.

All types of services below explore the behaviors, emotions, and ideas that contribute to life problems and define how to modify them for the better. They all aim to understand life problems or events and help you understand which aspects of those problems you may be able to solve, improve or endure. The goal is to help you regain a sense of control and pleasure in life while learning healthy coping techniques and problem-solving skills.
Individual counseling is where we gently yet bravely look at what's going on in your life and focus on personal issues. I provide a safe, caring, and confidential setting to work through challenging or influential memories. We identify aspects of your life that you would like to change so you can better understand yourself and others, set personal goals, and work toward change.
Here families and couples are
able to explore how their individual backgrounds, beliefs, thoughts,
and behaviors may be impacting their relationship in both positive and
negative ways. I assist with addressing
pressing problems, as well  develop strategies for enhancing long-term health and happiness of those involved.
Here a small group meets face-to-face over a particular issue such as grief, anger, depression or anxiety, or recovering from sexual abuse. Members explore their feelings and behaviors, hear different points of view and coping strategies, and receive encouragement from others. It's a powerful opportunity to share and learn from others in a safe and supportive environment while working toward healing and change.

Treatment Approaches
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
CBT stresses the role of thinking in how we feel and what we do. It is based on the belief that thoughts, rather than people or events, cause our negative feelings. I assist in identifiying and testing the reality of beleifs. CBT is a structured collaboration between therapist and client and has been clinically proven to help in a relatively short amount of time with a wide range of disorders.

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
EFT is an approach to therapy that helps you explore and experience emotions so you can better manage them. EFT embraces the idea that emotions can be changed, first by owning the maladaptive emotion such as loss, fear or shame, and then transforming it.

Existential Therapy
Existential psychotherapy is based on the belief that one's feeling of being alone in the world can only be managed by creating  meaning and developing a more purpose-driven life.  With this approach, I encourage you to to face your anxieties so you can carve out that meaning and take responsibility for the results.

Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)
MBCT is a two-part therapy that aims to reduce stress, manage pain, and embrace the freedom to respond to situations. MBCT blends CBT and mindfulness. Mindfulness helps by reflecting on present moments and thoughts without giving in to self-recrimination and judgement. MBCT helps you pay very close attention to your feelings. As you develop more emotional awareness, you will gain more objectivity to better handle life.

Multicultural Therapy
Multicultural awareness is sensitivity to the values, experiences, and lifestyles of any minority group. One's own issues with race, cluture, religion, gender, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic status are all processed in multicultural counseling. I recognize that, while there is no way I can experience the pain and difficultly you have been through due to your identity, I can provide a safe and nuturing place to process your thoughts and feelings so you can handle them better.

Paperwork Graphic
I hate it too, but some things in life are just too big to avoid, so my advice is to take a deep breath, print off this deck, and plow through it as best you can. If you have trouble or questions about any part, just skip it and we'll finish it together.

Standard fee for an individual session is 110 for 1 hour.

Paperwork for various issues is 70/hour.

Different rates apply for couples or family therapy.
